Wednesday – Are We Finished?

No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God. – 1 John 3:9

It’s clear in Romans 6 that even though Christ Justified us, has made us in right standing with God, and lived the life that we never could, that we will still sin as we learn how to live like God would have us to live.  The process of us becoming more like Christ is called Sanctification.  As you read through Romans 6, I want you to keep a few things in mind.

Sanctification is a process, as we get to know God better and as we are filled more with the Holy Spirit, we become more Christ like.  This happens through the reading of the Word, listening to others as they encourage us in the word, through life, and through prayer.  God is continually bringing us into His likeness as we grow closer to Him.

This process looks different for every believer.  You’ve likely heard stories of people sharing that, in an instant, God took away temptations or sins with which they had struggled.  Other people will share stories that they have spent their whole life battling their flesh, and sanctification has been a slow process in areas of their lives.   This is because God works in every believer in different ways.  God’s work in you is going to look different than it does in someone else.  God doesn’t love us less, and we aren’t lesser in God’s eyes simply because sanctification hasn’t happened at the same rate as it does in someone else’s life.  The important thing is that God is at work in our lives making us more like Him.  We’re not finished yet, but God is in the process of making us who He wants us to be!

 Read: Romans 6

Prayer: Lord, today I recognize that I am a sinner and in desperate need of You.  As you continue to work in me, show me areas of my life where I need to surrender to You.  May You continually remind of Your grace as you make me more like Jesus.
